IN CONVERSATION WITH CHRIS SWAIN

An interactive conversation with Lighting Designer Chris Swain. Chris will answer questions and chat about what it is like working as a creative and technical freelancer working in theatre and dance. How to get started, how theatre design jobs are structured, the difference between devised and text led work, how to be an effective collaborator, the tech and software that are used, and the future of the industry.

Chris is one of the key collaborators with the devising physical theatre company Gecko - lighting design for the company over the last ten years includes 'a little space', ‘The Dreamer’, ‘Time of Your life’, ‘Institute’, & 'Missing'. He is currently working with the company to develop their next production. He has also worked in various capacities with Wise Children, Kneehigh, Headlong, MAYK, Sadler's Wells, Bristol Old Vic, and Tobacco Factory Theatres.
As well as lighting design Chris has toured extensively as a production manager and re-lighter both nationally and internationally - working in China, the USA, Mexico, Colombia, Russia, and throughout Europe.
Chris also is a visiting lecturer at Bristol Old Vic Theatre school, and an ex student of York University.
